The existing garden sloped away from the house with views across the valley. The house looked out on a lawn fringed with mature and patchy shrub beds. A tall conifer hedge blocked the view to the end of the garden.

The client wanted a new terrace outside the house with steps down to the lawn, whilst retaining access around the sides of the garden. The development of the garden needed to be phased, and whilst the new lawn and terrace must work as a space in their own right, they must also be able to be linked through to other parts of the garden at a later date. We proposed a terrace around the house linking the access from both sides of the house with a water feature incorporated into the far side of the patio to mask noise from the neighbouring road. Wide steps lead down to the new levelled lawn. The Taxus baccata hedge to the back of the borders and the Buxus hedge to the front offers an evergreen setting for the planting. Tulips and lilies add spring colour and a sucession of roses flower continually throughout the summer.
